The story begins on a Friday evening where the author was picked up by Henrik, Johnny and Svenne. After a short detour to Lyngby after Mads Peter we started the drive to Gothenburg. The weather forecast said rain, rain, rain and more rain so we were equipped with a lot of rain gear. We took the ferry from Helsinor and then raced a Flying Circus car on the way Gothenburg. In the end we let them get past us so they could get lost in Gothenburg – seems like the plan worked because they did arrive at the school we were staying at after us. Shortly after our arrival the cars from Aarhus and Odense and Kristian who took the train turned up.
After a bit of confusion and the third (at least) change of game schedule we found out that our morning game had been cancelled. We were not playing until 11:30 Saturday morning. That meant plenty of time for a couple of games of “fedt” before bedtime…
On Saturday morning we were quite surprised to find that it was not raining. It was overcast but no rain and it luckily continued like that all weekend. The first game against Viksjöfors IF went well, we played OK and the game never really got exiting. In the end we won 17-8. Then we had a little harder game against Carnigie USC which we won 17-13 – again the outcome of the game was never really in question. The last game of the day was against another team from Copenhagen, our local rivals Flying Circus. Their team had a lot of inexperienced players so we took it quite easy and won the game 17-8.
After a quick shower we headed back to the school and then continued by foot to the restaurant where dinner was served. It turned out to be the same restaurant as last year and the same pasta carbonara as last year. The food was ok, even though slightly larger portions would have been nice (much larger for Svenne and Roar). I think everybody except Roar and Kristian had a quiet evening and were back in bed by 1 o’clock.
Sunday morning we started out with the deciding pool game against Liquidisc – both teams had won all the other pool games and both teams were sure to get to play a semifinal. However, the looser of the game would most likely be playing Skoggshyddan in the semi-final (presumably a hard game) so there was still a lot to gain from winning. We won the game 17-12 after a good game.
The semi-final against KFUM Örebro was much closer than any of the other games we had played, but despite this we were leading all the way and the game did not feel as tight as the score of 15-13 implies (Sunday morning it was decided that semi-finals and the final was played to 15 and not 17).
In the final our rivals from Skoggshyddan awaited after having beaten Liquidisc in the other semi-final. The game started out really well for us, we quickly gained a lead of 3 points and were ahead 8-5 at half-time. None of the teams played exceptionally well and there were too many turnovers from both teams. In the second half we made some really stupid mistakes and Skoggshyddan closed the gap to first 1 point and then even. It continued like that until we were leading 15-14 (game to be won by 2 points, hard cap at 17). Another couple of bad catches and bad decisions and we were suddenly down 15-16. We lost the disc and were only saved by an end-zone diveblock by Mads. That turned things around, we got to 16-16 and after yet another amazing end-zone diveblock by Mads we could finish the game with a long throw to be caught in the end-zone by, you guessed it, Mads.
What a relief! Having been so close to loosing made the victory even better. After a quick ceremony (which I missed because I was helping carrying our jerseys to the Aarhus car which needed to hurry to catch a ferry) and a shower we jumped straight in the car drove home again. That was the end of yet another amazing weekend in the company of the great guys from Ragnarok.
