Brief history 1999-2005

Ragnarok has been the most successful Danish team since 1999.

1999

First real big year for Ragnarok. Came in 2nd in the indoor Danish Championship after Flying Circus – our big rival in this decade. Ragnarok made only 4 mistakes in that game, but Flying Circus made only 1!

In the summer of ‘99 many Ragnarok participated in the World Championship for club teams with the joined team Fenris and came in 9th, which were the best result ever for a Danish team and the Ragnarok player had a big part in it.

The outdoor Championship was not the big hit that year. Ragnarok came in 3rd after a great, close game against Flying Circus in the semi final.

2000

Still climbing the stairs of fame Ragnarok yet another time came in 2nd in the indoor final against Flying Circus. A win in the preliminary rounds wasn’t enough to scare them and again they won a close final.

In the summer a lot of the Ragnarok players played the World Championship for national teams. Let’s not talk about the result, but we had a very good time.

The outdoor Danish Championship gave Ragnarok our first national victory and what a way to do it!!! 17-3 in the final and there was no comfort for the weeping Flying Circus players whom got blocked again and again and again. Hurrah!

But it’s not over before Big T sings. Kong Volmer was next in line. After a great tournament victory came in favour of Ragnarok in the final against Småland. Småland, a gathering of Swedish national player, couldn’t do anything about Ragnarok great play. 15-13 to Ragnarok and the first Danish triumph in this old classic tournament.

2001

Again a big year – except of the indoor Championship. A lot of no-show in the tournament and a fatal injury placed Ragnarok where we’re not used to be.

Much more success in the European Championship for club teams. Ragnarok came in 5th – not getting into the semi final because of a goal difference of 1!! point. Still a great result and a great push forward for Danish ultimate.

The outdoor Championship also a success even though it didn’t look like it. Behind 11-13 in the raining final, Ragnarok had big problems but not too big. 6 points in a row and Flying Circus (again) could only look sad and eat their silver.

Kong Volmer, well, yet another Ragnarok victory against a Swedish team. This time Carnegie tried to beat up Ragnarok but no good. We won 15-10 and Carnegie didn’t stand a chance.

2002

First year worth mentioning the indoor tournament Vintertrofeen in Gothenburg. A place as number 5 was alright but a defeat against some old Swedes was the end of the semi final dream and the best Danish result in that tournament. Fenris has previous been number 5, so that wasn’t anything to brag about.

Indoor in Aalborg – not good. Still not a Danish Championship. This time a close defeat to KFK, whom also won 2001 but lost to Ragnarok in the 2002 preliminary round. Well the wrong game.

Hawaii here we come. A great week and very good weather – to good for ultimate. A lot of wind and a lot of heat. Not the preferred Ragnarok cocktail and a placement around number 20. Danish outdoor – Flying Circus again – but not as winners. Ragnarok won yet another very hard and physical game. The greatest moment was a hand block of Ragnaroks grand old man, Erik Hammer, on Flying Circus’ grand old man, Jakob Juhl. 17-13 to Ragnarok. Third in a row.

Kong Volmer. Flying Circus again. Their 2nd team though or should we call them their most experienced players. A tight game in Farum Arena, but Ragnarok just wouldn’t loose to that old bunch. 15-11.

2003

Danish indoor Championship. Beaten by Odense Discflyers in the semi final with Mads ‘Renegade’ Bakkegaard on the team. 3rd after a game against KFK. Flying Circus won.

A few players from Ragnarok joined the national team in France. The national team still with Henrik Thomesen from Ragnarok as coach like in 2000. The national team had great success with a 3rd place among the best European national teams. Best ever.

Outdoor weren’t any good. Only 8 players because of a lot of injuries, so no final for Ragarok. Flying Circus took their first outdoor title in a long time and we came in 3rd after a great game against Aarhus Ultimate Frisbee Club.

Only Ragnarok triumph this year came in Kong Volmer for the 4th time in a row. KFK got a fatal beating in the final with 15-8 and didn’t stand a chance.

2004

Ragnarok still improving. 4th in Vintertrofeen but a 2-goal defeat in the semi and a 1-goal defeat against Odense Discflyers for the 3rd place spoiled the fun.

Indoor – much more fun. A 1-goal win over Odense Discflyers gave an easy semi against Flying Circus 2 and then a final against Flying Circus 1. 15-8 and the first Ragnarok indoor title ever! Flying Circus learned their lesson.

7th at the World Championship for national teams with a lot of Ragnarok players on the team. Like in 2003 third best European nation. Alright but not stunning play.

Outdoor. Ragnarok up in gear. 17-5 against KFK in the semi. 17-11 against Flying Circus in the final, in a tough, windy game but no doubt about the outcome.

Kong Volmer. 5th time in a row, but the tournament lacked the best teams. 15-6 against KFK in the final so……..

2005

Vintertrofeen – what a blast. 11-10 against the former winners Liquidisc in the quarterfinal. A very close game. Semi – 9-8 against the also former winners Skogshyddans in a tough and kind of dirty game. Final – too bad – 10-15 against a gathering of old, but very good Swedish players. Bad offence and slow defence – the 8 Ragnarok players hadn’t enough power to pull it off.

Rotenburg On fire ’05. Ragnarok wandered through the tournament but not in the final. Behind all the time and a crazy last point at 10-10. In defence we forced 4 turnovers (3 dive block by Svend Andreasen) and made 3 ourselves but luckily not the 4th. A great and tough victory.

Same thing to be said about the Danish indoor Championship ’05. No problem in the preliminary rounds, but in the final against our evil spirit Odense Discflyers, we had big trouble. Behind at halftime and later 13-13 but in offence we pulled it of with a couple of funny goals. Odense was asleep a couple of times and that made the difference. Still no Danish Championship for them to bring home.
